The Experience

If you love the outdoors and escaping people, then this is a trip for you. Kitchi Island Outposts is a 3 man crew based in Manitoba and they rock. They have small groups travel to them from all parts of the globe so they know having a stellar website with lots of great imagery is important. When we were there 5 years ago, I photographed his Kitchi Island property and of course was happy to do it again at Apisko Lake (and celebrate my Dad turning 70, too!). It was 5 magical days full of fishing, cooking, cards, and photoshoots. I couldn't have planned for it to be anything better. It was an absolute DREAM for me.

Here's what you can expect when you book your fishing expedition:

  • drive to Matheson Island where the planes depart (which is about 12 hours from Nebraska). We stayed in Grand Forks, ND on the way to break it up.
  • load up the planes with all your gear, food, and bedding for the week (x6 people ... that's A LOT of CRAP)
  • fly private about an hour to Apisko Lake where a quaint cabin and fishing marina await you
  • set up house (my favorite part!)
  • fish your brains out

hard to believe everything on the dock fits in that little plane (including passengers!)

From a Visitor's Perspective

When you own your own business, it's easy to not see the forest through the trees. You sometimes need an outsider's perspective to boil down what your potential clients are looking for in an experience. That's why I always ask a shit ton of questions to my branding clients to get clear on what images will speak to your people. For Clinton (the owner of Kitchi Island Outposts), it's all about the scenery and the fishes. Canada truly is a beautiful country and I felt we highlighted all that Apisko Lake has to offer.

After seeing these images, does it make you wanna to book?

and that's not all...

It happens to rain a lot in Canada and it totally did during our stay. So what are we supposed to do when we're tired of playing cards and snacking?

We have fun with the camera, of course.

There was this random jacket, hat, and tie hanging in the cabin when we arrived so of course I made JJ put it on. It's one of my favorite portraits.
